It
is narrated in legend that Madurai was originally
a forest known as Kadambavanam. One day, a farmer
named Dhananjaya who was passing through the forest,
saw Indra (The king of the gods), worshipping a swayambhu
(self created Lingam ) under kadamba tree. Dhananjaya,
the farmer immediately reported this to King Kulasekara
Pandya. Kulasekara Pandya cleared the forest and built
a temple around the Lingam. A city was soon planned

was to be named, Lord Shiva is said to have appeared
and drops of nectar from his hair fell on the town.
So, the place was named Madurai - mathuram meaning
"sweetness" in Tamil. ...more... Online Building Plan Submission |

E-governance
at Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) is aimed to provide on-line
citizen services, information to all hierarchies and monitor
performance of ULBs. It is in practice that citizens are
approaching the respective ULB's to pay revenues, get certificates,
approvals. The system shall use kiosks located close to the
citizens. These are to be linked to the back end processes
in the Municipal offices through a local area network. The
application would reduce corruption, make access to services
more convenient and improve the finances of ULB. Several
trips to Corporation were needed to obtain a building permit
or death and birth certificate the issue of certificates
often was delayed. Through this website citizen to get a
demand note and then go to the facilitation counter of the
Corporation office which is linked to the Corporation server
to make the payment.
